Now I finally have the dog I'd been wanting since I was a kid. Now what?
As Jagger's first day at our home came to a close, I had the first-time jitters - how I would go for her first night?
The kitchen was sectioned off as her domain and she was set up in a shoe box with a red fleece rug, her new squeaky cuddle toy and a hot water bottle. During the first few nights, I got up every time she cried to give her lots of cuddles and reassurance that she was now in a good home with a good family. We were so lucky to have her!
Jagger quickly settled into a routine and proved to be a wonderful addition to our family. My son "The Little Human" was a bit shy at first, but Jagger just adores him and now they are best of friends. Jagger also loves my husband "The Big Hairy Human" and already prefers to cuddle up to him in front of the TV.
Our little pooch appears to be a well-adjusted and sociable animal, with a great little personality. Jagger is quiet and sweet, but strides around like a boss. She has a delightful curiosity and a penchant for possum poo. Her fur is buttery soft and nails surprisingly sharp, and her tiny 1kg frame fits snugly into my collapsible picnic basket for the school run, trips to the cafe and sneaky shopping trips. She sleeps a lot but has plenty of energy to scamper about the yard and keep an eye on the street's goings-on.
Puppy pre-school is next on the agenda. She is showing good signs for training, thanks to her Poodle and Cavalier genes. I'm also looking forward to getting tips for keeping her sharp mind active. Jagger is one smart cookie. Hopefully puppy school along with lots of love and patience will help us produce a healthy, happy and reasonably well-behaved dog.
Fingers crossed!!!
