As many have discovered before me, raising a puppy is quite similar to raising a human toddler. Sure they are cute, but boy, can they get into mischief!
No roll of toilet paper, TV remote or toy is safe. She will sneak up to steal The Little Human's comfort toy, a stuffed monkey named Argabungo, with ninja-like stealth. She will snaffle any morsel of food that hits the ground or is in puppy reach - mind you, The Little Human spreads his food around him like confetti when he eats, and one bonus of having a dog is that the dining room floor has never been so food-free.
She loves a good shoe or slipper to chew, and her nails and teeth are so sharp, so anything 'nice' has to be put away to avoid teeth and paw marks - no more gauzy, floaty fabrics or new leather boots for me. It's back to the 'safe' clothes of toddlerhood. The things you do for love.
We have once again toddler-proofed the house to protect not only our little ankle biter, but our possessions. Initially The Little Human's old baby gate could not contain her as she was too tiny, but now that she's bulked up, the gate now keeps her in her special place (a.k.a. the kitchen) and she can see what we are doing. We really ought to get another gate to protect the bedrooms...
Despite the cool weather, our house is devoid of any kind of matting. Jagger takes any opportunity to sneak into any of the three bedrooms and leave behind a "onsie" or "twosie" - as if she's marking her territory. Of course we take her outdoors often to do her business and she has a piddle pad in the kitchen, but for some reason she loves to leave around little gifts. We're definitely looking forward to the warmer weather so doors can be opened often for her to wander outside freely.
Whilst Jagger sleeps a lot, she needs quite a bit of stimulation, so I've taken to the internet and my puppy school notes to get some ideas. Feel free to share your puppy games with me and my blog followers!
